Internship Opportunities
Conflict Mediation Services of Downsview has two opportunities for individuals to participate in Internships. The Internships are for graduates of the York University Certificate of Dispute Resolution and take place under the supervision of CMS-D. The Internships are for the Community Transformation Program and for the Restorative Justice Program.
Community Transformation Program Mediation Internship
Conflict Mediation Services of Downsview (CMS-D) is a community-based organization that seeks to promote, encourage and develop the peaceful resolution of conflict in its home community as well as the wider community. CMS-D’s mission is to advocate the use of peaceful conflict resolution processes through education, training, provision of mediation services, and social reform. CMS-D seeks to foster the restoration of relationships of individuals and groups in conflict, to promote peace and harmony, as well as decrease crime and its consequences.
This Internship position provides an opportunity to obtain the knowledge and experience involved in the practice of community mediation. All interns are required to take the Community Mediation Elective at York (when offered) or the Mediation Skills Training course at CMS-D as part of the internship, so that a consistent model and philosophy is used for the cases referred to our organization.
Start Date:Accepting applications with current availability
Time: 4-8 hrs/week - Flexible daytime/some evening
Benefits:

Qualifications:
- Understand transformative mediation principles
- Good communication & good telephone skills
- Good office administration skills
Responsibilities:
- Completion of the Community Mediation Skills Training at CMS-D (no extra cost) or the Community Mediation Elective at York (when offered)
- Assisting with case management including doing intake, second party calls, logging, tracking and monitoring community mediation cases
- Assisting with office administration and performing outreach
Site Specific Information:
- One intern can be accepted at a time for the Community Mediation Program Internship
- Internships may take up to 6 months or more

Private Information Court (PIC) Internship

CMS-D undertakes as its mission to advocate the use of conflict resolution processes, through education, training, provision of mediation services, and social reform. CMS-D seeks to foster reconciliation between individuals and/or groups in conflict, to promote peace and harmony, and to decrease crime and its consequences.
This Internship Position provides the opportunity to obtain the knowledge and experience behind the practice of mediation. All interns are required to take the Alternative Dispute Resolution Program at York or some other educational institution and/or the Victim Offender Dialogue Training at CMS-D so that a consistent model and philosophy is used for the cases referred to our organization.
Start Date: Accepting applications year round
Time: Thursday, 8:30a.m. – 12:30p.m., and otherwise flexible hours (daytime)

Qualifications:
- Completion of CORE I and CORE 11 for the Dispute Resolution Certificate at YORK
- Completion of the Community Mediation Elective (preferred), or Victim/Offender Dialogue Training at CMS-D
- Good communication & telephone skills
- Good office administration skills
- Understanding of transformative mediation principles
Responsibilities:
- Accompany CMS-D staff members to the North York Court
- Assist staff members to assess potential cases and do intake
- Assist with PIC case management, Log, track and monitor cases
- Miscellaneous office assistance
Site Specific Information:
- CMS-D will take on one intern at a time for each position
- Internships may take up to 6 months or more
