Volunteer with Us
The Restorative Justice Program provides a unique opportunity for volunteers to assist parties to resolve difficult situations in their lives through facilitation of the victim offender dialogue process. Restorative practices include providing support to victims of crime, supporting offenders in taking responsibility, and empowering parties to resolve their own conflict. Volunteers report a lot of fulfillment in working in this form of community justice, often creating insights or helping people get closure so that they can move on with their lives. The Process
- Contact Cheryl Rodgers, Director of Training and Volunterr Program, at crodgers@cmsd.org or 416-740-2522 Ext. 39.
- Complete an application (obtained from the Volunteer Coordinator) and submit it along with a resume and cover letter outlining your interest in volunteering. You will also need to complete a vulnerable sector police reference check.
- Applicants who meet our current needs and priorities will be called for an interview, and invited to complete a 28 hour introductory training.
- Those accepted as mediators will be offered further training and development opportunities through mentoring and Skill Development Nights.
Please note: We do not have any trainings scheduled for 2009 and are not currently recruiting new volunteers. If you wish to submit an application and resume, these will be kept on file and you will be contacted when a training has been scheduled.
